International Students to Receive Badges at Fort Leavenworth

Fifty international military students attending the Command and General Staff Officer Course at Fort Leavenworth will receive their Command and General Staff College International Officer Graduate badges during a ceremony June 12 at 10 a.m. in the Eisenhower Auditorium of Lewis and Clark Center. This is the 100th anniversary of international students graduating from the CGSC.  Lt. Gen. William B. Caldwell IV, Commander of the Combined Arms Center and Fort Leavenworth, is guest speaker.

The tradition of presenting international military students with a badge began in 1964 in response to interest by international military students who wanted a distinctive emblem to indicate they were graduates of the CGSC.  Many other military colleges around the world have such emblems.  International military students have attended the CGSC since 1894.  The first international graduates were two Mexican officers in 1908.  The international officers will receive their diplomas with their U.S. colleagues during graduation June 13 at 9 a.m. on Main Parade.
